Tutorial Tuesday: 1 fabric, 3 decorations

March 30, 2010 by Kaysi 32 Comments

My 5 year old has been asking for a Spiderman room, so lately I have been focusing on his (and his brother’s) rooms and decorating them. I found this fabric at Walmart and decided to do lots with it.
First I made a little board for his art. I made it because I really get sick of it being on the fridge!!
This is how I made it:
1) I got a board and covered it with the fabric. I stapled the fabric to the back

2) Using mod podge, I put on the letters onto the fabric and then I did a coat over the whole thing.

3) I spray painted the clothes pins red and then glued them to the fabric. I used a lot of glue because it has to stand up to kids….
4) I stapled ribbon to the back and then hung it up

I made a few other things with the fabric
I made curtains! I am an amateur when it comes to sewing. I don’t even own a sewing machine, I had to borrow one from a friend. Luckily in the picture you can’t tell how crooked the lines are 🙂

I used 1 1/2″ ribbon for the loops and then spray painted some big buttons black and hand stitched them on

I also used some 7/8″ ribbon on the bottom for some added cuteness. Or as my 5 year old would say, “coolness”

I then took the fabric and put it on the light switch plate. I just used mod podge and put it on. The best part, I can take these with me if we move and just replace them because they only cost $.20!

I absolutely love making things for my boys! They get so excited when I make them something, it just makes it all worth it! I’m almost finished with his room! Now I just need to figure out the comforter, if I’m going to make one or just buy one… decisions, decisions.

I’m linking this post to these parties

What a great idea! I don't have any boys at my house, but I could do this with girly fabric! I especially like the lighswitch plate.
