Scrapbook Thursday

Sometimes life gets hectic and crazy and I'm lucky to get a scrapbook page done. This is one of those times and so I just threw this layout together, it's not pretty, it's nothing special. But it'sdone and that's all that matters!

Using a little punch, I punch a hole and then ran a ribbon through the picture. I really wanted to show off this picture since it's my favorite!

This is also another punch that I have, it just adds a little bit to the paper. I then roughed up the edges with my thumb

Tutorial Tuesday: Car Roll Up

I have seen a lot of these little car roll ups around in blogland, so I had to try one. They are really easy and perfect for church!! I first saw the idea here.

This is how I made it:

1) I took two different fabrics and cut them both 14x14 inches

2) Then on the inner piece, I sewed a figure 8 (cut out of black felt) onto it

3) I then made the pocket by folding a piece of fabric 6x14 inches in half and then sewing it on. I then sewed lines to make the pockets, each about 2 1/4 inches apart

4) Once that was done, I put the two fabrics together (fronts facing each other)

5) I put the ribbon inside the two (don't put it on the outside, made that mistake!) and then sewed all along the edges, leaving a small hole at the top corner.

6) I then pulled the fabrics from the inside through the hole, to make it now right side out

7) I then sewed up the hole at the top corner and filled it with little cars

8) Roll it up and tie it together and it's prefect for travel!

Here's another one that I made with the same basic plan, just with different dimensions and using velcro instead of ribbon

Scrapbook Day

Here's a fun layout that I really enjoy doing. You probably can't tell, but each page has 4 pieces of paper on it. There's one that is 8x8, 4x8, 4x5 and 4x7 (well a little less, but you get the point) in all different colors of paper.

Here's a close up the little alligator, I used glossy accents for the eyes.

Whatever Wednesday: Spiderman Gift Boxes

While shopping at Target, I came across some Spiderman folders on clearance for $.25. I was super excited and picked up four of them ( I should have gotten more, to use as folders). I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them. I cut them down to size and then just glued them onto gift boxes that I bought at the dollar store. And just like that I have another decoration that was easy and cheap!Now with the gift boxes, I'm finally done with my 5 year old son's room. For about $15 I decorated the whole room. Now all I need is a comforter.

I'm super excited about how everything turned out! Hopefully as he gets older he will still like Spiderman and he thinks he is still cool. I don't want to have to change it anytime soon! :)

Tutorial Tuesday: Fabric cake stand

I made a cake stand awhile back and so I decided to make another one.

This time I thought that it would be fun to have the background of the plate be fabric.

Here is how I made it:

1) I took a clear plate and then cut a circle of fabric, about an inch bigger than the plate

2) I covered the back of the plate with mod podge

3) I then put the fabric, front facing the mod podge, onto the plate

4) Then I put another layer of mod podge all over the fabric

5) Cut the extra fabric off around the edges. Make sure that you really seal down the edges so water can't get under the fabric

6) I actually put another layer of mod podge around the edge and then with my thumb sealed it all around

7) I then painted a candlestick brown and glued it to the plate (using an epoxy glue).

** The back of the plate isn't water proof but it's resistant. It won't get damaged if it gets a little water on it, but it cannot be soaked in water. The front of the plate is just glass, you can wash that with soap and water. **

Scrapbook Thursday

To a lot of people, today really doesn't have very much meaning. But our family, it has a whole lot of meaning. Today is tax day and with my husband being an accountant, it means that we get our life back. My boys get their daddy back!! I'm so excited that tax season is finally over!!

Now onto the scrapbook layout. So this week I was having a hard time decided what to do. I was stumped for any good ideas. I find that when I can't figure out what to do, it's great to just go back through previous scrapbooks. My 5 year old wanted to look at his baby book, so we of course had to get out everyone's. It made me feel really good about scrapbooking because lately I have been feeling like a slacker. Sometimes it's just fun to go back through them!

So anyway, I found this idea from my youngest's baby book and thought that I would use it again. I actually reuse a lot of my ideas. Who needs something new every time, I know that I don't and that's it's really hard to come up with something every page.

This is a very simple page, I just took some ribbon and put it on an inch strip, inked and distressed the edges and then added buttons. That's about it!

I then took the ribbon and tried some white string on it to add to one of the pictures

I hope that everyone has a great tax day, as for me and my family we are heading out tomorrow for a much needed vacation!!

Site Review: Coupon Chief

I was asked to do a review about an online coupon company called Coupon Chief (http://www.couponchief.com)

Being a very frugal person, I actually spend hours a week clipping coupons. And living in the middle of nowhere, I really enjoy online shopping. Well Coupon Chief has combined those two things.

So I spent some time to really check it out and really liked what I saw. Who doesn't love saving money?

When you're buying something online, you can look for coupons by store or by product at the site to see if there is a coupon for what you are buying. Then you enter the coupon code that is given with the coupon. It's that easy.

One that I found very interesting was the online coupons for Target Coupons.

For example at Target, you can get $1 off L'Oreal by using the code.

When you click on the "click to activate" it takes you to the website of the store. There isn't a coupon code because it isn't needed, it is a sale that is going on. As for this one, it shows that Target.com has free shipping on certain kitchen items.

The website even has a video to show how it works, because if you're like me and not so much computer savy you might need a video to tell you what it all about.

I have not used these coupons but I know the next time I do purchase something online, I'm going to check on Coupon Chief to see if there is coupon for what I am purchasing.
