This summer I am going to try to do more and more crafts with my kids. I love creating and I want them to love it too! Luckily there are so many great ideas out there that I really don’t have an excuse for not doing it. Jo-Ann’s has a spring catalog that has 72 great summer crafts, with detailed instructions and product lists so you can start creating with your kids.
When I looked around, I loved the idea of making a treasure map. And I knew that my kids would love it too!
This is how I made it:
I bought these supplies at Jo-Ann’s and then used what I had on hand.
I cut the cork roll into a smaller size and then ripped the edges and inked them to give it a more worn look.
Using my Cricut, I cut out some shapes out of card stock.
I glued all the pieces onto the cork using a glue gun. This is a nice map of my house :).
I drew on with a sharpie to lead to the X.
I rolled it up and then tied it with ribbon.
I couldn’t have a treasure map with buried treasure, so I took an old container and covered it with skull duct tape.
And of course you can’t have a treasure map without a treasure hunt!! So I sent the kids on their way to look for buried treasure. I even buried the treasure 🙂
Here’s what Jo-Ann’s map looks like and then mine.
I made this treasure map but I plan on having another crafting day where the kids make the maps and we go on treasure hunts based off of their maps.
