Halloween is just around the corner and I am finally getting costumes made. I like to do family themes every year. They are getting harder and harder to do because my kids are getting older and starting to have an opinion about who they want to go as. Can you believe it?!?! I knew that this would happen, so I try to come up with ideas that will get everyone excited. Something that my boys are into. And then try to persuade my little girl to join in :). Well this year we are going to be going as Pokemon. I am going to to share with you the costumes that I have made. I would not call myself a seamstress and I usually make things up as I go, but I have loved the end products. And I hope that you will too!
So here is one of the Pokemon- Squirtle.
Here is what he looks like in the show.
This is how I made it
Using a shirt pattern, I cut out the pieces out of fleece.
Before I sewed up the shirt, I put some black ribbon onto the front of the shirt and sewed it on. Then I put together the shirt like it said to in the pattern. I also sewed a hood onto the shirt. I made it up as I went and forgot to take pictures.
For the shell, I took two pieces of fleece and cut two ovals. One is slightly larger than the other one.
Then with the ribbon, I made the design on the back and then sewed it onto the larger oval, leaving a little opening to put the batting in.
I put the batting in and sewing it closed. Then I folded the edge of the larger oval over and sewed it together. I did the brown to give it a little more padding for the yellow. I then took a strip of yellow fleece and glued it onto the shell.
I put the shell onto the shirt. I stitched it by hand and then I also glued it for more stability.
For the tail I cut out two pieces of fleece in the shape of the tail and then sewed them together. I then flipped it inside out and stuff it with batting. I curled up the end of the tail and hand stitched it together. Then I sewed it underneath the shirt.
For the face, I cut out felt and then used a glue gun and glued it onto the hood.
For the pants, I used a pattern. For a tutorial, you can go here.
And that's it!! It actually wasn't very hard, just time consuming.
And here it is in the back.
And here is my little guy in his costume.
Now he is ready for Halloween!! I used fleece so he can be nice and warm on the cool night :)
