Being active is one of those things that I love but at the same time struggle with. Some months I'll be great and other months not so much. It's definitely a work in progress but anything that is worth having or doing takes a lot of work. For the past two years I have been consistently active. Some months are definitely better than others but for the most part I would consider myself an active person. So I thought that I would share some tips on how I stay active, no matter what time of the month it is.
• Stay hydrated.
This is something that is a constant battle for me. You seriously have to have water with you at all times. But I have found when I am hydrated I feel so much better. My headaches are less, I don't feel as bloated and I don't have as many cravings.
• Count your calories.
I have an app on my phone that helps me. You can search for foods (even restaurants) and then put how many servings on it and it keeps track of how many calories you've eaten and how much protein and iron and vitamins you're getting per day. Whenever I start counting my calories it's always a wake up call. I realize how many calories that I am eating. Even if you don't count calories, at least look at the nutritional label on foods because it might make you think twice about eating it.
• Join a gym (if possible).
If you have the resources to join a gym, I recommend it. Especially if it has a nursery. It's a great way to have you time plus get a workout in. I don't go to the gym every day. I don't except to get there everyday, I shoot for 3-4 times a week. Some weeks I get there, some weeks I don't. It's just important that you exercise. I love the classes at my gym because I have a hard time working out on machines. I give up too easily. But when I have other women there to motivate me and to get me to work harder, then I do better. Plus chances are you will make friends and that will make you want to go. Here is a picture I took right after a kick boxing class. It's my favorite class, the intensity is high but it's fun too!
• Do exercises at home.
If you don't have a gym or can't afford one, do exercises at home. There are so many challenges or programs that you can do. Even if it's holding plank for 30 seconds, it's at least something. Or doing 100 sit ups. Then the next day, try to do more or longer. Once again, you don't have to do every day if you're not ready to do everyday. Go at your own pace.
• Buy some fun workout clothes.
There are times that I feel down and unmotivated to go to the gym. Every once in awhile I like to get a new bra or a new top or fun pants. I don't do it a lot but when I do I get excited to wear them and that gets me to the gym. It's just a way for me to get a little more motivated and excited about working out.
•Use Playtex® Sport®.
If you think about it, when we go out to exercise, we don't wear our regular clothes. We wear a sports bra and exercise clothes. So when we are on our periods, why would be just wear a regular pad or tampon? This sport combo box is designed for active women. The pads are ultra thin and body shaped so when you are ready to play and exercise you will be protected with the extra absorbent material. Plus they are designed to be comfortable. The last time I was at the gym with a regular pad on it was so uncomfortable, it keep rubbing me wrong and it was awful. Makes me not want to go when it's the time of the month. So I'm excited to use these so I can stay active even if I'm on my period.
• Don't give up.
Life sometimes gets in the way. When I'm crazy busy the first thing to go is going to the gym. Tomorrow is a new day. Next week is a new week. You can do things those days. Even if you don't exercise for a month, don't just give up. Just try to again. You are stronger than you think you, I know it!
What things help you to stay active? Does your period make it difficult to be active? If so, then you should try out these liners and tampons. They are a great price for a great product. You can always follow Playtex on Facebook and Instagram for more information and product details.
