Every 4th of July we like to make shirts. It’s just fun to wear them to the parade. The past couple years I have let my kids make their own shirts. Which usually means letting them paint and making a huge mess but they love the outcome of it all. I love that we made 5 shirts and they all look different and they all have their own personality!
This is how we made them:
I just used Frog Tape for the stripes, foam stickers for the stars and then fabric paint.
I made a square and then put the stars onto the shirt and then painted it blue. I let my kids do most of the painting.
Then I used the tape for the stripes. I wanted my little girl’s shirt to be a little different, so we went with chevron stripes. Notice the blue everywhere, yup I let her paint. Sometimes I struggle to just let them take control… but they still turned out cute :).
We painted the red.
Here are my older boys working, I just let them do the whole thing.
We then pulled off the tape (this is my favorite part of the whole process!)
And that’s it! Aren’t they so much fun?? I love how they turned out and I can’t wait to wear them on the 4th of July!
Here is how they look on, donβt they look great?? I love how they turned out!!
I LOVE this idea, Kaysi!! I showed it to my 7 year old and he's excited to make his own now! π I was wondering if there is a difference between using acrylic paint and fabric paint? I'm wondering if the acrylic paint doesn't wash well? I don't do a whole lot of painting on shirts, but I want to make sure they can wear them more than once.
Megan I used both fabric and acrylic paint for these (ran out of red) and the main difference is the fabric doesn't fade as much in the wash. It will still work though
Awesome share great job!!
The way you made this is so clever! I never would have thought of the foam stars — brilliant. And here's another project that shows I need to get my hands on some of that shaped frog tape!
Thanks for sharing. I know my kiddos would LOVE making these!
I am all sorts of in love with this.
My daughter has been begging me to do a t-shirt – thank you for this! It's adorable.
These are SO cute, Kaysi! My boys just saw this, and now they want to make some, too! π
LOVE these shirts. The boys will be here Monday and we are making these shirts to wear to their church's 4th of July celebration. Thanks!
These turned out really good Kaysi and I love that the kids could make them. They look darling on too! π
