Father’s Day is coming up and I wanted to make something loud and proud for husband. So I made him a fun chalkboard frame with the kids’ pictures in it.
This is how I made it:
I made the frame out of 1×3’s. I used my frame tutorial. I actually had my husband make it, his own gift :).
Using a nail gun, he nailed the frame together. It stays together much better than the staples.
I used some chalkboard paint and painted the frame.
I put on three coats.
Using some chalk, I rubbed it all over the frame and then wiped it off with a damp rag.
I cut out some white vinyl with my Silhouette and put it on the frame.
I then put the picture into it. I stapled it in the back. I got my picture printed at Walgreens. It was a poster size, 36×24 and I just cut off the top and bottom to make it 36×12.
I then let the kids write messages onto the frame.
And that’s it!
I love how it turned it! I especially love how my 4 year old wrote his name.
I used the chalkboard because I thought it would be fun to have my husband hang it up in his office and then when the kids come to visit they can draw on it and leave him messages.

How lovely to see your children taking part in an activity – and for their Dad. Enjoy them while they are little for they grow up far too quickly!
