DIY Christmas Tea Towel- Neighbor Gift Idea
I love Christmas time! I especially love creating fun Christmas crafts and decorating for the holiday. I made a ton of stuff last year, but there were a few things that I didn’t get to, like making these fun tea towels. I love having a fun and festive towel on the handle of my stove, so I thought that I cut personalized one would look perfectly there. As I was making it, I thought that my friends and neighbors might like one too, and since they are inexpensive and easy to make, I decided to make them for neighbor gifts this year.
Here is a quick video to show you the process of how I made the DIY Christmas tea towels.
This is how I made them:
I got the flour sack dish towels from Walmart, they are in a 10 pack for about $7.75, making them less than a dollar each. I then used heat transfer vinyl for the design. I cut it out with my Silhouette CAMEO. I used a red buffalo plaid vinyl and then stretch heat transfer vinyl in black, red and green apple.
I then weeded the vinyl. I got the design from here. I added the last name and date, that didn’t come with the design. I used a font called Gloucester MT Extra Condensed.
I laid out the dish towel and then arranged the design onto it before I ironed it on with my heat press.
Using my heat press, I put the temperature setting at 320, for each layer I pressed for 20 seconds. I pressed the tea towel first and then started putting the heat transfer onto the towel. Between each layer I used some multi use paper to protect the vinyl from the plate from the press. After I put all of the vinyl on, I used a heat transfer pillow. Since the tea towel is so thin, the pillow helps so that it’s thicker and there is more pressure on the heat transfer.
Since the tea towel was folded up, I wanted to make crease lines that looked nicer. So I folded it the way I wanted and then pressed it down to give it nice crisp lines. I then did the other side (the side with the design) I used the pillow to protect the design from the seams of the towel.
And that’s it for this Christmas tea towel. I love how it turned out!
It looks great on my stove too!
I wanted to make a couple other designs for the neighbor gifts. This is a nice simple one. You can get the design here:
I made this tea towel the exact same way as the personalized one.
