When I became a mom 11 years ago I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I wasn’t unfamiliar with kids considering I am the youngest of nine and by the time my first baby came around I had 26 nieces and nephews (I was born an aunt even). I watched my nieces and nephews all the time and watched my siblings be parents. I remember going into a store and seeing a parent yell or drag their kid into the store and thinking “I will never be that kind of parent, I will never do that to MY kid”. Little did I know that I would be that kind of parent more often than I would like to admit. Being a mom is hard. It’s hard work and stressful and challenging and some days just plain suck. But at the same time it’s wonderful and so great too and there are days that are so awesome and so much fun and so rewarding. For the days that aren’t so great, I decided to make myself a little stash of treats and gum to get myself through the day. Because some days you just need to hide from your kids and eat something to get yourself through the day :).
Extra® Gum just came out with these new bigger packs of their awesome gum. They now have 35 sticks of gum in them. For me, gum is a life saver, especially when I am trying to watch what I eat. Sometimes I just need something in my mouth to keep it occupied and make it think it doesn’t need anything else like candy. These new packs are conveniently located in the check out line at Kroger family stores and come in Spearmint and Polar Ice® flavors. Plus it comes in durable recycled packaging which is really nice for when you have it in your desk or purse and is ends up on the bottom of a pile or the bottom of your purse. The hard case makes so the gum doesn’t getting all smashed up and gross, how great is that?!
This is how I made made the containers for mommy’s secret stash. I took regular tupperware containers and some fun scrapbook paper to put around the edges so no one can see what you hide inside.
I cut two pieces of paper for each container 2″ wide and 11″ to 12″ long.
Then using a foam brush, I put a layer of Mod Podge onto the container and then put the paper onto it, pressing down to keep out air bubbles.
I then put on the lid and added a fun printable that I made. You can get that here.
Now time to fill the container with my favorite treat. Along with the new Extra® 35-stick pack, I added some trail mix because it is sweet and salty and I love it.
This is what you’ll need for the trail mix:
Pretzels
Raisins
Peanuts (any nut would do)
Chocolate candies
I put the trail mix into a sandwich bag and then put in the game. You could portion out the trail mix so you don’t go crazy and eat all of it in one sitting (because some days that I what I really want to do). And since the gum packs have 35 sticks in them, you really could share them with your kids too, because there is plenty to go around and they would think it is totally awesome to get something from your special secret stash!
I put the lid onto them and now I have one for my car, hidden under seat and one for into the house. Maybe hidden behind the flour in the pantry :). Either way, these little containers are going to come in handy when I just need something to pick me up and get me through the day. You could make both of them for yourself or you could make one for you and give another one for a friend who you know could use it just as much as you can :).
What are you favorite snacks to get you through the day? Do you love sweets or does chewing on gum get you through the day? I would love to hear it! And if you would like some more inspiration, check out these ideas using Extra® Gum.

This is such a great idea! I like that you covered the containers with different types of paper so the inside of each is well-concealed. And it's definitely okay to hide some mommy treats to enjoy when the kids aren't around #client
