I have a lot of cute maternity clothes. They are great, but there is one problem, the majority of them require a tank top underneath them. For some reason, that is a very common style for maternity shirts. Well I love the layered look, but where I live it is not uncommon to hit 100+ degrees right now. So I needed to fix them because it's way too hot to wear a tank top and a shirt!!!
So this is what I did:
I took these two tank tops. I've had these since high school and they really don't fit anymore and cut them up.
Using the bottom of the tank top for the top of the white piece, I sewed them into the shirts! Just like that I have the layered look but without the extra layer!!
Here are a few that I have done, I plan on doing more, even to my non-maternity shirts.

that's a great idea! looks cute, too!
ReplyDeleteI do this with almost all my t-shirts to avoid potential wardrobe malfunctions! So practical!
ReplyDeletea very good solution! I need to do this, too. I also hated layering when I was pregnant, but had to do it. I really hated how the tank top always rode up no matter what and then you could see this big line right across the huge ole belly... urg!
ReplyDeleteLooks good!
Cute! you should link this up to my upcycled Awesome linky party! http://tinyurl.com/Upcycled7
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Thanks for commenting on my petal skirt!
ReplyDeleteYou are the best! Just yesterday a shirt I was wearing was driving me nuts because the tank under it kept slipping down! Perfect solution, thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea. Less bulk and bunching and rumpling this way! :)
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful idea!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei like it so much
That is awesome! I love this idea because I get really hot in the summer and I hate to wear two shirts. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI just did a similar thing ( and havent posted quite yet)... Instead of sewing into the new shirt, I created a "tube top" of sorts, to wear under T's!
ReplyDeleteThis is SUCH a smart idea! it is way too hot here too for tank tops and layers. A lot of times I end up wearing a sports bra over my regular bra to provide that modesty, but this looks like a more comfortable solution!
ReplyDeletegreat idea! I'm gonna have to do some soon!

ReplyDeleteFun idea! Thank you so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat IS with those maternity shirts? I sometimes sew a piece of fabric in mine, but more often I just cut out a piece of fabric (using the bottom hem of an old shirt, just like you did) and then just pin in to my bra strap at the appropriate height. I guess it's a cheater way of doing the same thing - because then I dont have to sew at all.
ReplyDeleteRocking idea once again from you!
ReplyDeleteYet again another fantastic idea! I am a layer girl no matter how hot it is, but this is a fabulous idea! It also looks great! Thanks for linking up to Hoo's got talent!
