So I have had 4 kids in about 5 1/2 years and for some reason with this baby, I really thought that I would be able to lose the weight without dieting or exercising. Boy was I wrong on that one. So after my baby was about 5 months old, I decided that it was time to start exercising.
I’m a runner. I have always loved running. The problem is that with four kids, it hard to get out of the house to exercise. So I decided that I wanted to try a dvd program. I was considering going P90X, but I had heard that the workouts were about 90 minutes and 90 days, well that was a little too long for me. But then I had a friend try out Insanity and after talking to her about it, I thought that it might be something that I would like.
So in April, I decided to get off of the couch and start the Insanity program.
It was only 60 days long and I figured that I could do that. I did the first workout and I thought that I was going to die!! I was nauseous and I never get nauseous after working out. But I just kept with it, even though I was so sore. At times I would stare at the tv and think to myself, “you want me to do that?”. I knew that it was going to be hard when I saw the people on the dvd struggling also. But I pushed through and did the workouts.
After two weeks I could tell a difference. I was much more flexible. I could touch my toes (haven’t been able to do that since high school) and I could tell that my muscles in my legs and back were getting stronger. The workouts were getting a little easier and I had more energy. Finally by week 4, I felt like I really could do the workouts and didn’t have to take as many breaks. Then month 2 happened….. the workouts get longer and harder, but eventually I was able to do those too.
About two weeks ago, I finished the program!! I exercised six days a week for nine weeks. I definitely haven’t done that since high school! I feel so much better now! I was able to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and actually have muscles in my arms and legs again! I feel so much stronger now, especially my upper body. It was hard to exercise everyday. Some days were definitely better than others. Some times I couldn’t finish the workout because I got interrupted by kids. But I did it and I’m so glad that I did!
Here are a few pictures of my kids exercising with me. I tried to do it before they woke up but sometimes I was a little late and they joined me for the stretching at the end
I really enjoyed doing Insanity. Here are a few of my favorite things about it
*The workouts were quick and intense. Month one there are about 45 minutes and month 2 60 minutes
*You don’t need any weights or equipment
*There is a lot of cardio (remember I’m a runner)
*It works out all of your body
* They include stretching at the beginning and the end of each workout. I tend to skip that when I work out on my own
*It’s only 60 days
*You get a workout even if you go a little slower
*Anyone can do the exercises that they do
Now that it’s done, I have missed exercising. We went on vacation and I haven’t done a thing since. I need to get off the couch and start running again! If you have any questions about Insanity, feel free to email me and I will definitely tell you my opinion on it!

I can't believe how motivated you are! You seriously do so many things and are so great at all of them! It makes me think I could be doing so much more! I still only have one kid! You really are amazing. It may sound parental, but I'm so proud of you! I bet you look awesome too! Keep it up 🙂

I love seeing how you worked out with your kids. I've not tried that before, but I think my son would love it.

now, you said you were a runner so you were once in shape I am thinking….would this be too hard for someone who is not and has not been "athletic" or worked out in a loooong time? Should I do another program first to get in some shape first?

Mindy,
It may be too hard and intense. But I don't know. It wouldn't hurt to get into shape and then do it.

We're (my husband and I)one week into doing it and I think that any day now I'll be able to at least make it through the warm up without stopping to catch my breath. LOL I'm glad to know that I can survive it!

Wow, you are dedicated!! I tried Insanity but it was too insane for me! Keeping up was tough..but I was in an accident so I had to stop (bulged discs and too much pain). Kudos to you for finishing it!! I would love to attempt it again…
