Disclosure: I was given this fabric to create with, all opinions, content and ideas are 100% my own.
For the longest time I have wanted to make a grocery bag holder. I just throw all of the grocery bags under my kitchen sink. It doesn’t look very good…
Not sure why I haven’t done it before now. Maybe it was because I didn’t have any fabric that worked, or because every time I want to sew something different I get super nervous and afraid, because sewing still intimidates me. Well then I got some awesome #waverize fabric from Jo-Ann and it matched my kitchen perfectly. So I decided to get over my fears and just did it. And it was a lot easier than I thought it would be!
This is how I made it:
I took the fabric and some 1/4″ elastic. I cut the fabric 23″x14″.
I then folded the fabric twice and hemmed the edges of both ends. I did this to the long ends, making it about 22″ long.
Then I cut some of the elastic. I cut it 3 or 4 inches shorter than the fabric.
Using my longest straight stitch setting, I sewed it on. When I sewed it on, I made sure that the elastic was stretched out so it fit from one side to the other. When you finish sewing it, it immediately goes back to it’s non stretched phase and gathers the fabric.
I then folded the fabric in half length wise, put a loop of ribbon on the top and sewed the whole thing together.
I flipped it inside out and then filled it with grocery bags one by one.
And that’s it! Super easy to make. And now when I need a grocery bag, I can just take one from the bottom.
I love the waverly fabric line at Jo-Ann! Right now they are celebrating the Waverly’s 90th anniversary by having a fun consumer contest with their waverly fabric!

Thank you so very much! I'm sick of looking at the grocery bags under my sink but I just can't throw them away. They're so handy to use as small trash can liners. Now I can make this and the mess will be gone!
