I was given product for this post, all opinions are 100% my own.
It’s summer time and it’s time to travel! This year we decided to get a bunch of travel pillows for our kids (because having full sized pillows in the car is crazy!). So we bought all 5 of our kids travel pillows. Finding pillow cases for them isn’t easy (and honestly who wants to spend so much when they are super easy to make?). I wanted to make a super cute pillow case for my daughter’s. Since she is the only girl, I get to have fun with her stuff and go all out! I love the look of fun flowers, so I used the Spellbinders Platinum Die Cutting Machine to cut out the fabric (yes you heard that right, a die cutting machine that can cut fabric!) and I love how it turned it!
This is how I made it.
First I started with the flowers. The die that I used had three different sized flowers, so I cut different fabrics into different sizes. For the biggest flower I cut fabric to be 3 1/2″ by 3 1/2″. For the middle flowers I cut fabric to be 2 1/2″ by 2 1/2″ and the smallest fabric was 2″ by 2″. I then cut some fabric interfacing into squares too and ironed them onto the back of the fabric.
Next I took the flower die and then put the fabric face down onto the die.
Then I sandwiched the die into two plates and sent it through the die cut machine.
This is how it looked when it came it, a perfect flower. The edges of the fabric were crisp and a clean cut (woot woot).
To save on time, I put the fabric onto the three different flowers and cut three at a time.
Here are all of the different flowers cut, don’t they look pretty?!
Now for the pillow case. I cut two pieces of white fabric 15″ high and 21″ wide.
I then ironed all of the flower appliques onto one of the white pieces (I took off the backing of the fabric interfacing first).
Now time for the name, using the alphabet die I put pieces of pink fabric onto the letters of her name.
Then I sandwiched the die into two XL plates and ran it through the machine.
Then I ironed the letters onto the fabric.
Next I sewed the flowers and letters onto the fabric. I also hemmed back 1 inch of the fabric on the left side (that is going to be the opening of the pillow case).
I then placed the other piece of white fabric onto the front of the pillow and then sewed the three sides together (leaving the hemmed sides open).
I then flipped it right side out.
And that’s it! It fits the travel sized pillow perfectly!
I love how her name looks cut out of fabric and how well the die cut machine cut it out, it’s pretty awesome!
And all of those fun colors of the flowers are so much fun!
This platinum die cut machine is pretty awesome. Not only does it cut fabric, it can cut card stock, felt, metal, leather and more! It’s so nice to be able to cut all of those materials and know that the lines are going to be clean and crisp. And I love how it doesn’t take long at all, just pull out the machine, get the die and then put the material in it and put it through, super easy (and we all know that I like easy!). Plus my kids love to use it with me (they love cranking it, they get a kick out of it!).
Now for the fun part, a BIG GIVEAWAY!!!! I’m so excited for this! One lucky winner is going to be getting the Platinum Die Cutting Machine, and three dies: Type OH, Tammy Tutterow Floweret Posies, and Bow-tique.
