Gathered Pillow

July 10, 2012 by Kaysi 8 Comments

I haven’t been loving the colors in my bedroom.  I when I redid my chair for my computer desk, I just loved the bright colors and what it did for my room.  So I decided that my bedroom needed a facelift.  I got my husband on board and we got new bedding, all white.  Since I love color, I needed some bright pillows for the bed.  Here is one pillow that made for it (there are more to come!), I got the idea from here.

This is how I made it:
I wanted my pillow to be 18×18, so I took a piece of fabric that was 19” (one inch bigger than my desired width) and then 44”, I wanted it to be at least 2x the length of the desired width).

I marked where I wanted to sew with pins.  There were about 3 1/2 inches apart.

Using my longest stitch and with a straight stitch, I sewed the fabric all the way down.

Next I started pulling the bobbin thread to gather the fabric.  It took some time, I just worked my way down the fabric.

I worked the fabric until it was at my desired width, 18”.

To keep the fabric in place, I sewed along the fabric where I had already sewed.

Now for the back, I took two pieces of fabric and cut them 18” width.  One was 16” and the other only was 10”.  I hemmed the edges.

I place the fabric onto the gathered side of the front and then pinned.

I sewed all four sides and then flipped it inside out!  I love the look of the gathered fabric!

I stuffed a pillow inside.

I wanted a couple of flowers onto it, so using my glue gun I just glued some flowers onto it (these were premade that I had).

And that’s it!!  It was super easy and quick!!  I love it, it looks so good on my new white bedding!

My new chair isn’t the most comfortable in the back, so sometimes I’m going to use this pillow for some support and comfort Smile.
