How to Frost Glass with Vinyl For More Privacy

For the longest time I have been searching for a way to make my french glass doors more private for my son’s bedroom.  I find a solution that was not only easy it was inexpensive and I LOVE how it turned out!  I wish that I would have done this earlier! 

After we moved his room I made some curtains for the glass doors for privacy but between him and the other 4 kids, they got torn down and I couldn’t figure out how to keep them up, so I ended up taking off the curtains.  The bedroom is the first thing that you see when you come into my house and both of us didn’t love that you could see right into his room.  Even when it was is “clean” it’s still an 11 year old’s bedroom and so it still doesn’t look great.  So I researched how to frost glass that wasn’t permanent and I found vinyl film that was perfect! 

There are a variety of styles and designs.  I found one that would be cool for a tween bedroom but not too crazy that it looked bad in my entry way.  It’s super easy to install.  All you have to do is clean and dry the glass and then cut it to the size that you need with scissors. 

Then with a water bottle, you spray the window and then peel back the plastic on the film and place it onto the wet window.  Using a squeegee or a vinyl applicator you work all the air bubbles out of the vinyl and make it smooth all around (no glue is needed!!).

And that’s it!  It didn’t take long at all to install and I absolutely love it!  So much better than dealing with curtains.  You can still see the light from the room and you can still see in if you get close enough.  It’s a great solution for our problem we had! 

It has held up really well and still looks great after a couple of months.
