My absolutely favorite thing in my new laundry room is the table that my husband built for me. He did such an amazing job on it! It’s so nice to have a table that doesn’t take up any extra space but gives so much space! It’s so nice to be able to fold clothes on it and have a surface to work on while I am doing laundry.
Before I tell you how I made it, I want to show you my inspiration. This is a picture of my sister’s laundry room. She did this about two years ago and ever since then I have wanted to do it. I didn’t get a nice HE washer and dryer until we moved here, so that is what I was waiting for. My sister is amazing and crazy talented. She made this table out of a door that she got on clearance for about $25. Hers is about 8 feet long and looks amazing!
This is how I made my table:
I started with a regular door that I got from the hardware store. It’s 32” wide and was almost 6 feet long. We had to cut it to fit our laundry room. It’s great to use a door because it’s just the right size for the table!
Using 2x4s, my husband screwed them into the wall. This is what will support the door.
He continued all around the washer and dryer.
For the shelf, we used wood that was 12” wide and 1” thick. My husband cut two pieces that were about 41” long (the height of the table) and 3 pieces that were around 32” wide, the width of the table.
Using a drill, he drilled holes and used wood screws and screwed the shelf together.
Here it is all built.
Then he put the shelf until the door.
He screwed the door onto the shelf to secure it. Then he screwed the door onto the 2x4s on the walls. It’s not going anywhere!
Here it is with the door and the shelf.
Finally this is where I came in
. I painted the shelf an awesome turquoise (exotic sea from Valspar)
To give the door (table) a more finished look, we took some molding and put it around the edge of the door. For the corner, he cut the molding at a 45 degree angle using a miter saw.
Then using a nail gun, he nailed it into place.
Doesn’t it look so much better with the molding? I love it!
I then painted the molding white and the door grey and then decorated it. I love it!!
