Happy Valentine’s Day today!!! Anyone have any big plans? We do not, we will celebrate the holiday as a family but not as a couple. I’m going to make pink and red pancakes for dinner and that’s about it. Pretty boring, huh? One of our favorite things to do on holidays or around the holiday is make and decorate sugar cookies. I bought a big things of 101 cookies cutters so we can do it for every holiday as one of our traditions.
My kids absolutely love this! First we make cookies and then I just let them play with the dough like play dough. They have so much fun! It keeps them entertained for an hour or more! Yes that is flour all over my son’s shirt, like I said, they had a lot of fun!
Here’s a great recipe that I got from my friend. It makes 6 dozen cookies.
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups butter/margarine, set out before to make room temperature
3 well beaten eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1 tbsp hot water
5 cups flour
1) Mix butter and sugar together with mixer or in large bowl
2) Add eggs, vanilla and baking soda and mix
3) Stir in flour and knead it until it’s not sticky anymore. Add more flour if needed
4) Roll out dough 1/4” thick and cut into desired shapes
5) Bake at 375 degrees of 10 minutes
For the frosting:
1 stick margarine (room temperature)
3 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp milk
Mix all ingredients together. Add more or less milk until you get the desired consistency.
