We went to summer reading this past week and they made a super fun craft that I had to share with you. The theme is dig into reading, so they had a bug theme. They made a little caterpillar catapult using two cups, a balloon, pipe cleaner and pom poms.
This is how they made it (sorry the pictures were taken with my phone):
They took two plastic cups and cut holes in the bottom of both.
Then they took a balloon and cut off the long skinny end and put the balloon over one of the cups.
Then they put the other cup into the other cup, making sure the balloon came out of the hole a little.
Then they added a pipe cleaner for a handle (it’s really more for show).
The caterpillar is just three pom poms glued together.
Make sure the caterpillar goes into the balloon, then pull it back and let the caterpillar fly. Here are a videosto show you how they work. They are so much fun!! You can have contests and see who can launch the caterpillar the furthest.
