My little girl turned one this past weekend!!! Where does time go? I wanted to make her a fun birthday shirt, so I came up with this.
I picked up this shirt back when we were in Kansas. It didn’t even cross my mind that it was short sleeved and that she was going to be 12 months in the middle of winter. There, she could wear a short sleeve shirts in the middle of winter and be just fine, it’s warm enough. It’s not the case here in Utah.
I bought these tights for $1 after Valentine’s Day. The are a size M (for little girls), so way too big. So I got creative and use them for the sleeves :).
First thing I did was cut the tights and made some that will fit my little girl.
This is how I made the shirt:
1) I cut the tights for the sleeves. I hemmed the end.
2) I put the sleeves into the shirt and then sewed them onto the shirt.
3) I cut out a cupcake liner and cherry out my Expressions Vinyl heat transfer in colors pink and red. I mirrored the 1 dots.
4) I ironed on the liner.
5) I took the foot of the tights and made a strip of ruffles.
6) I pinned the strip onto the shirt and sewed it on.
7) I then ironed the cherry on top.
8) Now for the rhinestones. I used the medium size from the Silhouette rhinestone starter kit. I placed them into the holes.
9) I placed the transfer paper onto them.
10) To protect the heat transfer paper, I used the multi use paper and placed the iron on top of that. I used the wool setting for the rhinestones. Then I then ironed the inside of the shirt to adhere the glue on the rhinestones.

Your outfit is WAY too cute and so crafty! Lindsi and I could both easily do that for our kids. My girls hate having to put away their t-shirts in the winter. Now I know I can turn them into winter shirts very easily!
