Accent chairs are really big right now. I so badly wanted to get one for my living or family room. When I went shopping for them I saw that they were at least $100 and some of them were even $200. I don’t have that kind of money for a chair that is more for a statement piece and not so much for functionality. So I decided not to buy one from the store.
Well then I found one that I really liked from a garage sale and decided that I could cover it and make it a super cute accent chair!
I found this chair at a garage sale for $5!! I just happened to see the garage sale when I was coming home from the store. I stopped by because of the chair. They wanted $15. I didn’t want to spend $15. The guy could tell that I wanted it so he told me that he would go down to $10. I figured that it never hurts to ask, so I offered $5. It was past noon and I could tell that he wanted to get rid of it. Score! It was actually in really good shape and would have been cute as is, but I wanted color and patterns in it.
I went to a couple fabric stores to look for the fabric, then I realized that I had almost 2 yards of this fabric from Jo-Ann waverly line, it matched my living room perfectly. Score again! That meant that I only had to spend $5 on this chair!
To recover, I just use my hot glue gun and my staple gun. I didn’t really want to damage the fabric so I could reuse it if I wanted to. I did the fabric in sections. First I worked the seat.
I stapled the bottom of it and used the glue around the legs.
For the back of the seat, I took one long piece and draped it over the back. Then I staple the sides.Then I folded the fabric and glued it down the back of it.
The trickiest part was the side, I just had to glue the fabric down and just make it work around the edges. At one point I cut the fabric and glued it.
And that’s it! Now I have a fun, colorful chair and it only cost me $5, woohoo!
And I think it looks pretty good 🙂

Hey Kaysi, great idea! I love accent chairs but I'm on a tight budget. Plus, this one will save me a lot of time because there's no sewing involved!
