DIY My Little Pony Fluttershy Equestria Girls Costume

My little girl is obsessed with My Little Pony. She just loves it and I knew when it was time to come up with a Halloween costume that she would want to be a Little Pony for Halloween. Of course she picked one that is as popular, Fluttershy. Fluttershy is her favorite because she is nice and kind and shy, just like she is! It melted my heart when she told me that because that is just like her. I decided that I didn’t want to do a full pony costume and since they already have the pony as girls (the Equestria Girls) that would be the easiest way to make the costume. So that is what we did and she LOVES her costume and she can’t wait to go trick or treating with it!

This is how I made it:

For the dress and skirt part I got a pink t shirt, 1 1/2 yards of pink polka dot fabric and 3 rolls (25 yard) sparkly green tulle.

For the polka dot skirt, I made a circle skirt. For a complete tutorial, go here.

To figure out how big you need your radius to be, you took the inches around your waist, add two and then divide by 6.28. So for my little girl her waist was 20 inches so I added 2 to make 22. Then I divided by 6.28 which was about 3.5. So the radius of the inner circle is 3.5.

I then folded the fabric in half and then half again and then from the corner measured 3.5 inches at all different angles and then drew a line to cut.

I wanted the skirt to be 16 inches long, so I added 16 inches to the 3.5 and then measured out 19.5 inches to the outer circle.

I then cut out the circles from the lines (here is what it looks like opened up).

I then put the skirt onto the shirt. I put the bottom of the shirt onto the top of the skirt and sewed them together Make sure that outside of the shirt is facing the right side of the skirt fabric.

I then hemmed the edges of the skirt.

And here is the dress.

Now for the tulle skirt. I cut out a piece of elastic the same size of the waist, so it was 20 inches. Then I sewed it together. Then for the tulle, you have to cut the pieces to be double the length that you want it to be. I wanted it to be about 12.5 inches, so each piece was 25 inches long.

I then knotted the tulle onto the elastic. The key is to make sure you do it the same way the whole time. I folded the tulle in half and then put it under the elastic.

Then I took the end of the tulle and put it through the loop and then tightened it.

I continued to do that until I went all around the elastic. It took about 2 1/2 rolls of the tulle.

Now for the wings. I cut them out of some cardboard.

Then using a glue gun, I glued some yellow fleece onto the front and back of the wings.

I then sewed the wings (with a needle and thread) onto the shirt of the dress. I made some ears out fleece and put them onto alligator clips and then glued some butterflies onto the tulle skirt and made a butterfly clip. I got the pink wig from here to complete the costume.

And that’s it!!! She just loves it and she looks so adorable in it.
