Good Morning everyone – First off I want to thank Kaysi for allowing me to be a guest host – ( Kaysi, you’re simply the best! ) My name is Suzan and I blog over at Simply Vintageous – welcome to my wacky world!
This is my first time guest hosting and I’m in a bit of a panic here – because as usual with everything I do I wasn’t quite finished my project – and I’ve been flying around like a chicken with its head cut off literally to get this post completed in time – BUT I did it!!! In the knick of time – by the sweat of my brow – but I did it none the less, lol
My makeover is a simple one really – I knew I wanted to create a nautical themed something or other – so
when I found this table I decided this would be the perfect item to try it on.
I know, I know the top does not look like it matches the bottom, right? It looks like it should have a round top on it – when I turned it around to see if it had been added throughout the years, I discovered this
it’s on a pivot –
if you are of a “certain ” ahem, AGE – you’ll remember these were fancy schmancy t.v. stands – all the rage in the 70’s – ( and you thought it was just Farrah Fawcett hair and bell bottoms, right? ) I actually had one of these – and I think mine was plastic……………..do they make plastic furniture anymore?
Ok – on with the post –
I painted the top Graphite – and the bottom pure white – I was going for a crisp look here – nothing distressed at all so this was really easy peasy.
Once the 2nd coat was dry I started taping – a little hint for straight lines when taping is to put them side by side
and then remove every 2nd one as you go along – reusing the tape you’ve just removed to make another
row ( less waste that way – and frog tape is expensive – so worth it – but expensive )
I then painted the gaps in pure white……………..
Until I had my nautical end table
hmm – the legs don’t look right – this is where the pivot comes in handy – lol
Ok – so time to decorate the table – for the 99.9999 percent of you who have no idea who I am – a couple of times a week I include conversations that go on in this house over blogging issues – and true to form this post caused another bizarre conversaton – here goes
Suzan says – John do you have anything nautical themed that I can put on the table I just painted
John says – Nope
Suzan says – A book? A magazine? It can be anything really
John says – Nope
Suzan says – Well you’re just laying in bed ( it’s 12.30 at night mind you ) can you just check for me please,
I really need something to stage the table with and it has to be nautical and I need to send this post out tonight
John says – I don’t have anything nautical Suzan – just put a candle on it for crying out loud……………
Sigh – wait a minute what’s this
Suzan says – John would you mind if I painted this and added a temporary mast to it
John says – GIVE THAT BACK – ARE YOU NUTS? THAT’S AN ANTIQUE SHUTTLE
Suzan says – Shhh – the windows are open – it’s the middle of the night
John says – I’M SERIOUS – GIVE THAT BACK TO ME – don’t even think of touching it
Suzan says – I think it looks a bit like a boat – I need something nautical
John says – IT’S A SHUTTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT DOESN’T NEED A MAKE OVER, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Suzan says – Ok – just let me add a mast to it – I won’t paint it –
John says – Good night Suzan –
AND HE ACTUALLY TAKES IT INTO THE BEDROOM WITH HIM, lol
Ok – now I start roaming around the house looking for something to stage the table with ( does anyone else do this? )
Look up – look way up……………..
I live in a Victoria Flat with very high ceilings – perched at the very top of this bookshelf was a horse ornament and I decided that is what I would have to use ( since HE wouldn’t let me use the boat shuttle.
So I gingerly climbed up on a stool – and jumped on to the back of the chair and stood on my tip toes and grabbed the horse and promptly started to fall – taking down a ton of books as I landed on the chair –
picture frames crashed to the ground – the stool went flying – chaos – in the middle of the night,
JOHN YELLS – WHAT THE?????????????????????…………………………….
Suzan says – I’m ok – don’t worry about me
John says – This blog is going to kill you, you know that right? And if it doesn’t kill you it’sdefinitely going to kill me
Suzan says – Goodnight John – sleep tight – I have to get this post out to Kaysi
Phew – but I got it done ( that’s my post and I’m sticking to it!!! )
I had to creep into the bedroom for one last question
Suzan whispers – John are you asleep yet?
John says – WHY?
Suzan says – I need to know what a shuttle is – so I can explain that on the post
John says – it’s for weaving fabric – GOOD GOD – pls leave me alone…………………
Thanks so much Kaysi – I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday –
With much love and appreciation

Congrats Suzan on your guest hosting, I love the table, thanks for the tip on getting the stripes straight, I want to try that technique soon. I also remember the swivel TV stand lol. And that is a classic John and Suzan story, you guys are so funny. I am glad that the whole bookcase didn't come down on you crazy woman, the things we do for our blogs. hugs Tobey

That is Awesome! And you know I love reading your posts, Suzan!! So glad you weren't killed in the process of staging your nautical table. 🙂 and the 'Keep Calm and Carry On' is perfect for the subject – as well as the horse, of course.

Love the table, but have to go with John on this one–you need to stay alive and able to write blog posts for your eager readers! Please be careful.

Well- Your table looks great- nice job- I DO remember those TV stands and yes I had one, too. I think even way back then I painted my own black. The more you tell me about YOUR John the more I am sure that MY John has morphed and divided himself in two…one part lives with you- the other with me. If you go back in my posts you will find several conversations much like you have. They'll be the end of us yet!!! xo Diana

It's All Connected
I'm playing reading catch up and loving your little table! Some people must think ahead of time about what they will use to stage. I'm not one of them. I probably would have stuck a cat on it and called cute!
