I don’t know about you, but outdated light fixtures drive me crazy! I just don’t like the look of them and they are so easy to change, so I like to change them out. It’s amazing what a nice and new chandelier (or even light) can do to a room. When we looked at our house back in June, I knew immediately that I would be changing the dining room chandelier. I cannot stand gold….
So here it is, not very pretty at all
And here is the whole dining room, before I got to it

When I picked up the paint from Lowes, I also went down their lighting aisles. They have some amazing lights and at amazing prices. They have a TON online too!
Here are a few that really caught my eye as I was going through the aisles. Aren’t they fun? I just love the flowery one, I just knew that my husband wouldn’t love it in the dining room.
I found the perfect one, exactly what I was looking for! So within a couple days of moving here, I put my husband to work and we changed the chandelier.
This is how my husband changed it (I was there for moral support):
First he turned off the breaker for the dining room.
He unscrewed the plate of the old chandelier
Then he unscrewed the caps on the wires.
He worked the old wire out and unscrewed the mounting plate. Now the old chandelier is gone!
He screwed in the new mounting plate for the new chandelier.
Next he worked the new wires into the mounting plate. As he did that, I helped hold the chandelier.
He matched up the wires to the wires in the ceiling (they will vary by color, so pay attention to where they need to go). He screwed on the caps and then put the plate of the chandelier on.

And now we have a great, new, and modern chandelier! I absolutely love the look of it! When I saw this one at the store, I just fell in love. It was exactly what I was looking for. I love it when I find something that fits with the picture in my head!

Here is what it looks like with our table. Much better, right? I think so!
Oh yeah and I painted the wall yellow, did you notice? I couldn’t handle the dark red wall, it just doesn’t match any of our stuff or my personality. So I painted it a BRIGHT color
. It’s called Golden Haze 3006-1C

Do you have an outdated light fixture that you want to change? You totally should because it makes a huge difference. Plus, Lowes has a ton of fixtures and I’m sure you can find one that is perfect for you!
Disclosure: I was able to go to Lowes and pick out a chandelier of my choice. All content and opinions of this shopping trip are 100% my own.
Good to know! Pinned!
This is a great tutorial. I need to hang a chandelier and haven't been able to get my husband to help. Now I know how. Would you link this with my link party tomorrow?

My other half fit a new "ceiling rose" (as we call them here in the UK) and I was terrified that he would zap himself or the wiring would be all wrong…I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the whole thing was though! I'm so glad you posted really good information as well as pictures so hopefully it will help someone out when they need to do it themselves!
