Easy Gift Idea- Personalize Casserole Dish {Glass Etching Tutorial}

Sometimes we all need an easy gift idea, one is that is perfect for everyone.  I thought that this would be a perfect gift, a personalized casserole dish. Everyone goes to some kind of potluck dinner and we all have had problems of getting our dishes back. So here is a way to personalize it so you don’t have that problem anymore!   This is a great gift idea for Christmas or weddings!

I actually made this for my mom. She already has everything that she wants and has no more room for pictures or decorations in her house, so I thought that this would be a very practical gift for her, which makes it a great and easy gift idea!

 

This is what you’ll need
– glass casserole dish (any size)
-contact paper (or  stencil vinyl)
-gloves
-sponge brush

I made this casserole dish 7 years ago and it’s still looks amazing!  I have made more of these since then and and every time I am amazed by how well they look!!  When I make them, I used vinyl instead of contact paper because it sticks better.  I used contact paper when I made this because I didn’t know what vinyl was :D.  Here is a video to show the process of how I make them, so it’s basically the same process as the tutorial, I just use stencil vinyl and transfer paper instead of contact paper, but you still put the cream on, let it sit and then rinse it off.  And as you can see in the video, these dishes last (I show you the one that I made 7 years ago and it still looks amazing!).
1) I used my Cricut (but you can also used a Silhouette also) to cut out the letters on a 6×12 inch piece of contact paper. You can also use a craft knife to cut out your letters. Make sure that you cut your letter in the side that says contact paper.

This is what it looks like once the letters are cut out.

I made it so you can read the name with the casserole is facing up, but if you want to do it so you can read the name from the bottom, then cut on the other side of the contact paper. You can make these with vinyl also, just mirror the image before cutting out the vinyl and then use transfer paper to put the vinyl onto the casserole dish.

2) Place your contact paper on the casserole dish, without taking off the backing.
This is for you to kinda see where you want to place the paper. I would even maybe tape a piece of tape to make where you want the paper to begin. I didn’t do that and mine it is a little off center
3) Now start to take off the back of the contact paper.
I took off a little bit and then pressed it onto the casserole dish. I slowly continued to take it off while pushing the paper down.

4) Make sure to get all of the air bubbles out, especially around the edges of the letters. If you have letters that have holes, make sure to add those also.

5) Using your glass etching cream and sponge brush, apply it onto the contact paper. Make sure to wear gloves.

You will want to put a generous amount on there. Start by going up and down and then from side to side.

6) Allow to sit on there for 10 minutes.
-Here’s a tip, when it’s done sitting you can put the excess cream back into the bottle and use it again
7) Rinse the cream off with tap water and peel off contact paper

8) Wash with window cleaner and dry

And just like that, you have your own personalize dish!  Such an easy gift idea.

  16. That's one of the most clever ideas I've ever seen….what a great way to ensure that you get home with your dish from the church potluck…. However…. I still might have a hard time finding mine….sad to say, but whatever I bring is usually untouched…. Cooking isn't my forte'….but it's not THAT bad.

  23. This would be a great wedding gift! Cheap yet personal! You could make a "basket" out of it and put in the ingredients for your favorite casserole along with the recipe.
