I love the look of plates for decorations. I don’t have a plate wall, but I do like to change out the plates for each holiday or season. Vinyl is such a great thing to decorate the plate with too. This plate I cut out the vinyl using the new Cricut Mini. Are you thinking, what?! Why are you using a Cricut? Well I had the opportunity to review and try out it and tell you what I think of it.
Cricut just came out with a new Cricut Mini, you can use both digital images and cartridges with it. So I decided to try out cutting some vinyl because you know how much I love vinyl and if it doesn’t cut vinyl, then it’s not good enough for me.
This is how I made the plate.
I took a regular plate, one that I’ve been using, you know for dinners. Since I got new dishes this year, I have over 40 plates. So I’m going to use some for decorations. I just spray painted it a nice orange.
Using Cricut Craft Room, I design the vinyl. You can search for images and find the one that you are looking for. Then you can use the fonts from cartridges for the words.
I adjusted the blade setting and the pressure and then let the machine do it’s magic and cut the vinyl.
This is what happens when you don’t pay attention to what the computers says and set the pressure to the wrong number. It was a little hard, but still did the trick.
I then put the vinyl on my orange plate.
And now I have a fun Halloween plate!
I was impressed with the little Cricut Mini. I did a great job cutting the vinyl and had really clean lines.
Here are a few pros and cons about the machine.
Pros:
First off, the price. It’s only $100 and it can do so much! Talk about bang for your buck.
It’s quiet. It’s nice to be able to use it during nap time and not have to worry about waking up a baby.
It used cartridges and digit images online, no more having to buy the whole cartridge.
It cuts vinyl, cardstock and fabric.
Cricut Craft Room is very user friendly and works with Mac and PC.
Cons:
The size of it, it only cuts up to 8 1/2 inches wide. This one is pretty big for me. But you can still do so much with the 12” length.
The fonts are from cartridges, not from your computer.
There isn’t a trace feature.
Overall, it’s a great little machine and you can make some amazing things with it!
Let’s keep in touch!
Disclosure: I was given a Cricut Mini to review. I was in no way obligated to give a good review. All content, ideas and opinions are 100% my own.
