4th of July Wreath

June 7, 2012 by Kaysi 11 Comments

With all of the 4th of July décor I have been making, I needed a wreath for my front door!!  I had another idea but ended up doing this instead:
4th of july wreath (1)
When I first thought about a 4th of July wreath, this one came to mind.  I really wanted to make it.  By now you know that I’m a pretty frugal (and when I say frugal I mean cheap) person.  $5 is the max that I spend on a project and that seems really high to me.  I went to the store to get the supplies (the yarn) and it would have been $6 just for the yarn.
So the cheap side got the best of me, and I went a different decoration. I had the red yarn already, so I used that.
This is how I made my wreath.
I took a wreath form (I really like the straw wreaths because they are bigger, cheaper and I don’t mind the bumps).  I then covered it with red yarn.

I found these things are the dollar store, they are clappers.

I cut off the glittery stars from the clappers

Then I glued on the stars.  I know you’re thinking to yourself, those tabs look pretty dumb.  I was thinking the same thing.

So I took some white felt and cut out some stars real quick to hide the tabs.  Much better

I put some ribbon on it to hang it up.

And that’s it, super simple and quick!!!

It's cute! I'm with you- if I'm going to make it myself, I want it to cost as little as possible. Love the glittery stars!

SO cute! I love the American flag one, but you had the right idea going the cheaper route, cause your wreath looks fabulous! I am going to have to make one of these for our 4th of July celebration. Thank you for sharing!

Very cute. I love seeing cute projects that don't cost very much. I'm with you, $5 or less for most things.

Cute! How long does it take you to cover it up in yarn? Is there a trick to it that makes it go fast? Because I started one last year and it's only half covered because I was too slow.

Thank you for this idea. I'm going to make it tomorrow. In keeping with the frugal mentality, I'm going to make t-shirt yarn out of red, white, & blue tees for the wreath. And maybe I'll save some for the adorable flag pillow! Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas!
