This is a sponsored post with Habitat for Humanity. All opinions are 100% my own.
I love my home. My kids love our home. It is a place that we can relax, spend time together, have shelter from the weight of the world and just be ourselves. Homes are very important for everyone, especially families. Home is the key for family, kids need a place to feel safe and loved. Did you know that for the past 40 years, Habitat for Humanity has been building homes for families that are in need? They don’t only build homes for these families but they are giving them a place to be safe and loved, a place where they can grow and make memories. I am happy to say that I have partnered with Habitat for Humanity for a campaign called, Home is the Key. The campaign is to help bring awareness to people and help raise funding so they can continue to do amazing work in communities around the country.
When I thought about my home and my family and one area that means a lot to me, I immediately thought about our kitchen table. It is amazing how one piece of furniture can hold so many memories. So I thought that I would share with you why the kitchen table is so important to my family and me (plus there is a fun little printable that I made up that is perfect for any kitchen!).
The kitchen table has a lot of meaning to me, as a mom but also as a daughter. I have very fond memories of our kitchen table growing up. I was the youngest of 9 kids and by the time I was old enough to remember a lot of things, several of my siblings were already out of the house. When I was in elementary school, my family was crazy busy with sports and school schedules so I didn’t always see my siblings much, but I do remember always trying to have dinner together as a family. Some nights one or two of the kids were missing but every day my Mom and Dad would be at the table and we could go and sit for a minute and just talk about the day. I have so many fond memories of those dinners and that is something that I want to pass onto my kids. I am not nearly as good as cook that my Mom was, but I’m sure trying :).
Our kids are getting older and we have started school sports this year and the crazy busy schedule that comes with it and the other school activities my kids are in. Some days we are missing a kid or some times my husband has to work late, but every night we try to have dinner together (even if it’s just cereal). It’s a time that we put away our devices and just talk about the day. Some days there is a lot of chit chat and other days the kids are just anxious to get done with their food so they can go outside and play. It is so nice to have that time together as a family, even if it’s only for 15 minutes.
Another thing that we love to do around the kitchen table is play games. Our kids are getting older so we can actually play games as a family and it’s wonderful. I love playing games with them and the memories that come with it.
With games you have to teach the kids about winning and losing. You have to teach them that a lot of times there are a lot more losers than winners in games (and life) and so there are usually some kind of fight or tears at the end of the game, but during it there are usually lots of laughs and smiles and it’s those good times that we will remember as time goes on!
My house and home is so important to me, I couldn’t imagine life without my home. It is such a great privilege to be able to come home after a long day and just feel the love that is in the walls. Sadly not everyone has that privilege. Did you know that 1 in 4 households pay more than 30% of their income on their home? That makes it so sometimes they don’t have enough money for things like food and clothing. There is a rise in housing cost making it almost impossible for anyone in the US to have a minimum wage job and afford a one bedroom apartment, how crazy is that?! This is where we can help out!!
There a three ways to help out.

Since the kitchen table is such an important place in my house, I made up a cute sign to put into my kitchen, because some of the best memories are made gathered around the kitchen table!! I made up a printable (but you can use it as a cut file too and cut out vinyl). You can get that here. I just printed it out on paper and then glued it to a piece of wood and painted the sides yellow for my kitchen, I love it!
I also made up another design that is more neutral, you can get that here. I made up a frame for this one, you can get a full tutorial on how to make the frame here. Make sure to check out all the fun details of my kitchen!
Make sure to check out these amazing sponsors too!
