Best Christmas Neighbor Gift – Santa Cookies Plate with Cookies in a Jar

November 28, 2017 by Kaysi 10 Comments

One of my absolute favorite things to give to my friends and neighbors are these Santa plates with cookie mixes.  Not only are they a super cute and fun neighbor gift, they are yummy and gives them an activity to do as a family, who doesn’t love that?!  I have done them in a few different designs but this one is my favorite!  I just love how it turned out, the glittery vinyl on the plate (and yes it’s washable, by hand) and then the cookie in the reindeer jar!  I am excited to give these out this year and then to have some for my family too (because my kids will love it too!).

Here is a fun and quick video to show you the process of making these.  They are super easy to make and so fun!
This is how I made them:
Using my CAMEO I cut out the glitter vinyl.  I made up a free cut file that you can use.  You can get that here:
Santa Plate, SVG
I weeded all the vinyl and here is what it looks like.  I cut the words, the nose and part of the hat out of the glitter vinyl in infrared.  I then cut out parts of the hat in the silver glitter vinyl.  The reindeer mouth and eyes are in the black indoor vinyl and the other part of the eyes are in the indoor vinyl in white.  I then used a white plate (I got a nicer one that is a pure white but they have them at the dollar store for only $1!) a wide mouth quart mason jar and a cute little milk jar that I got at the Target dollar spot (a couple years ago).
I then used the clear grid transfer paper (this stuff is awesome because you can see what you are doing and the lines help line everything up!) and put it onto the vinyl, using the application tool.
I put it onto the center of the plate and then rubbed it down from the center to the edges (since there is a curve on the plate that is the best way to make sure you don’t get bubbles). I then peeled back the transfer paper slowly to make sure the vinyl stays onto the plate.
I then added the little hat to the S on the plate. I added some vinyl onto the milk jar too because I think it’s so cute and funny!  I love how the red glitter vinyl looks (it’s even more sparkly in real life).  The vinyl is permanent so it is washable but I recommend washing it by hand and not in the dishwasher.
Now for the mason jar, I just added the face to the jar (on the side that doesn’t have the logo) using the transfer paper.
Now for the cookies in the jar.  This is what you’ll need

Chocolate Chip Cookies in a Jar

Course Dessert
Cuisine American
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Servings 12 cookies

Ingredients

Ingredients in the jar

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 /2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup mini M&Ms
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Wet ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1 egg slightly beatened
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Instructions

  1. Separate the flour, sugars, baking soda and salt from the M&Ms and chocolate chips.

  2. Soften butter in microwave for 30-40 seconds.

  3. Put flour, sugars, baking soda and salt into mixing bowl.  Add butter and mix on low setting.

  4. Add beaten egg.   Mix

  5. Add vanilla. Mix

  6. Add M&Ms and chocolate chips and mix thoroughly.

  7. Roll dough up into a ball and add to greased cookie sheet, makes 12 cookies.

  8. Bake for 11-13 minutes at 350 degrees.

I added the dry ingredients into the jar.  I started with the brown sugar and added them in the order that they are listed, ending with the chocolate chips (that way it’s easier to separate them).  I then added some antlers out of piper cleaners (I forgot to take pictures of that, so watch how I did it in the video).  I also made up a printable to put onto the jar so when you give them to people, they know what to do with them :). You can get the printable here.  I added that to the jar using baker’s twine.
I made up the cookie dough (because they are super yummy and soft and how could I not make them?!), this is what they looked like before cooking them.  They are making my mouth water right now!
And that’s it!  I love how it turned out and I can’t wait to make Santa some cookies on Christmas Eve.  I think he will approve of these :).
Here is a close up of the glitter on the vinyl, it’s so pretty!
Here it is altogether.  You can see that I added the antlers and the printable to the jar.

These cookies are so good and nice and thick and fluffy (not super flat and crispy, which I don’t like at all!).

Vinyl is so versatile and you can do so many things with it!  It especially is great for making gifts (like these Santa cookies!).  I teamed up with a few other bloggers to come up with some awesome gifts that are perfect for Christmas.  Check out the awesome ideas and then enter to win a gift card to Expressions Vinyl.  While you are there, vote for #1 too, pretty please :).  You can enter to win and vote here.
