DIY Gallery Wall With Old Family Pictures

Every year I attempt to take some kind of family pictures. You know, get matching clothes and all. I think that the scrapbook-er in me, always wanting to document everything. With all of these pictures I have displayed them somewhere in our house. I have them up and then it seems like we decide to add another kid, so I have to get pictures taken again. This has been going on for the past 10 years. Some of these pictures are some of my favorite pictures. I was sad that I did have them on display anymore. So I had this idea to have a gallery wall in my entry way, but instead of with current pictures, I used our old family pictures. And I absolutely LOVE how it turned out!

I made all of the frames to match and there were very inexpensive to make. I bought 6 1″x3″x8′ pieces of wood. They run around $2.

Using a 45 degree angle I cut the wood. I wanted the frame to be 10×13 (the pictures were 11×14). So I measured the wood for the inside to be 10 inches and then I cut it.

Once I cut one side of the frame, I put it up to the wood so I could get the exact same size instead of measuring it with a measuring tape. This works much better.

I then cut out two other pieces of wood (13 inches in the middle) and then made the frame.

Using a nail gun, we nailed the frames together.

Then I painted all 9 of the frames white. Since the wood was a little rough, I distressed them a little bit.

To put the picture into the frame, I just taped it.

Here are all the pictures. I organized them on the floor first before I put them up.

Using a level and measuring tape, we put up the frame. We just used the nail gun to put the frames up. I then filled in and painted the holes.

For a little color, I added the years to all the frames with vinyl.

I added a blue G to complete it. All of the pictures were 11×14 (well except two, they were 10×13, but I cut the frames to be 9 1/2×12 1/2 so it’s hard to tell).

I just love how this turned out and I love looking at all the pictures.

It’s so fun to see our family grow. Some of the pictures we just took with my tripod right before church. Nothing fancy, just pictures of the family.

This is what people will see when they walk into our house! The best part about this gallery wall is that I can easily add onto it as the years go on.

**** Update: Since we have had these photos for 2 years now, I have added to them. I also repainted them to be more white and repainted the wall too. Here is what they look like today, I still love them! ****
