Grey Ruffle Skirt

April 24, 2012 by Kaysi 6 Comments

This past weekend I went down to Thanksgiving Point to see all the bloggers at the SNAP conference.  Since this might be the only time I saw them, I wanted to look cute.  So I decided to make myself a grey skirt to wear there.  The funny thing is…… I didn’t wear it.  I got there and saw that everyone was in jeans I felt like I would be a little dressy.  Plus, it was the time of the month and I hate wearing dresses/skirts when it’s the time.  So I wore capris instead of the skirt.  But I still plan on wearing this outfit to church or some other outing some time 🙂

This is how I made it:
I cut three pieces of fabric (I used a knit that is a little shiny).  I measured my hips, added 4 inches and then divided by 2. Then I measured how long I wanted it to be. So I cut the pieces 20″x24″.

I took one of the pieces and cut it like this.

I sewed all three of the pieces together, having the cut piece in the front.

I then cut 4 strips for fabric for the ruffles. They are 4″ wide.Photobucket
Using a straight stitch, I sewed the top of the strip and then pulled the bobbin thread to gather it.

I pinned and sewed the ruffle to the front piece.

Then I sewed the ruffle all around the bottom on the skirt.

Once the ruffles were on, I added some elastic to the top (sorry forgot that picture).

And that’s it.  Super easy!!

I had to show off my flats, I got these at DI for $2, I was super excited about them 🙂

I love the skirt, and it sounds so easy to make! Thanks for showing us how.

I saw your QBM picture and wondered why you didn't end up wearing the skirt. I probably would have worn jeans too!

    Have a great week-
