Homemade Christmas ornaments are so much fun! Just like anything homemade, it’s fun to have something unique and something you can’t just go buy at the store. Well one of my friends saw my nail polish dipped ornaments and asked if I had ever tried doing melted crayon ornaments. I hadn’t but it intrigued me and I really wanted to try them. They are super fun to do and I love how they turned out! I especially like that it is all done inside the ornament so it has a nice smooth surface, perfect for adding vinyl :).
Here is a quick video to show how to make these, it’s fun to watching the crayons melt and see how the ornaments transforms :).
This is how I made them:
I took some crayons, clear ornaments (I used glass) and a hair dryer. I used the 96 pack of the Crayola crayons because they had metallic colors in it with gold and silver (and I had to have gold and silver!) but I’m sure any crayons would do.
The first thing I did was take off the wrappers on the crayons. And then I broke them up into small pieces.
I then added the crayons into the ornament and then closed it up again. For this one I used a forest green, white and red.
Using a hair dryer, I then melted the crayons inside of the ornament. I wore an oven mitt on the hand that was holding the ornament (because it gets pretty hot!). As the crayons melted, I moved the ornament around to make the marbled look. I used both high and low settings. The high setting blew the ornaments around so you have to be careful not to lose control of it. What I found to be the most effective is try to blow right where the crayons were on the ornament. They would get stuck to a side, so I would turn the hair dryer right to that spot until it melted. By doing that I got more coverage and the color spread more evenly. Super fun huh?? I love how this one turned out!
I did another one with blue, white, silver, black and then I added a little bit of silver glitter.
Here is how that one turned out, I love how it looks! The darker colors definitely dominated when they melted, so if you don’t want it to be too dark, don’t put as much of the dark colors in. This one has a fun galaxy look to it.
I did this to all the ornaments in the box and they look soooo cool!
I have to put vinyl on everything, so I put some glitter black vinyl onto one. I cut the word joy out with my Silhouette CAMEO 🙂
And that’s it! I love how these melted crayon ornaments turned out!
I added some baker’s twine and then hung them on the tree! This one I used red, green, white, gold and a little gold glitter.
Here is the first one I did (it is my favorite one I think!). I put white, green and red into it.
I love the color of this one, it was a metallic blue crayon. I added blue, white and silver into this one.
Here is a more neutral one using gold and silver. I put gold, silver, white and then gold and silver glitter. It’s so pretty!
