Neighbor or Teacher Gift Idea- Hot Chocolate Mason Jar Snowman

When I think about neighbor gifts at Christmas time, I think about all the sweet baked goods and sweets that people give me.  But for me, the one thing that screams winter is hot chocolate. We are having an especially cold winter this year (already….) and so I wanted to make something that could really warm up my friends.  And of course I can’t just give out hot chocolate, I needed to make it into something cute.  So I did just that and I love how they turned out!

This is how I made them.

I used a wide mouth mason jar (it needs to be wide mouth to fit everything in it), some sandwich bags, hot chocolate and marshmallows.
I filled the sandwich bag with the hot chocolate (about 2-21/2 cups) and then taped the bag so it doesn’t get everywhere.
I put the hot chocolate in the middle of the jar and then put marshmallows all around it to make it look white.  Then using my Silhouette, I cut out the face of the snowman out of vinyl.
I put the vinyl onto the jar.  Then I made a little hat our of fleece.  I found a couple of blankets for only $2.50, so I used those.  I cut it to 12″ wide and 5″ tall and then folded it in half and glued it to make a “tube” kind of shape.  I like the look of the edges of the blankets, so I used that for the bottom of my hats.
I glued the hat onto the jar and then tied it with baker’s twine.
Then I made a scarf out of the fleece.  I cut it 1 1/2″ wide and 24″ long.  I then cut the ends of it to make it look more like a scarf (I did the same thing with the hat too).
Next I made a cute little tag to go with it.  I ended up making three versions of the tag and you can get those all right here.  I cut them out and then put them onto the scarf.
And that’s it!  Aren’t they so much fun?!?!  I love how they turned out and I can’t wait to give them out to our friends this week!
I just wanted to show you real quick the other versions of the tags.  These would make super cute teacher gifts! I also made the friend tag singular in case you were just giving it to one person instead of a family.  I know that this is a completely different project, I just used the same tags :).  You can get all the details of this candy bar snowman here.
And here is a closer look.  I am going to make these for our teachers this year :).
