Getting fit and healthy has been my focus and goal for the past two years, but for the past few months I have been working on getting stronger and building more muscle. I am/was a runner and after high school when I wanted to work out, I usually went on a run. It was good enough for me a few years ago but now it’s not enough. My body needs more than just cardio, I need strength training. My body needs to become stronger. Especially my upper body and back (I have scoliosis and my back is really weak). So I started taking a weight lifting class at my gym and it has helped tremendously! But I am still lacking in one area, my diet needs more protein. I don’t eat a lot of meat or beans, so I don’t get a ton of protein. I needed something that would be a good source of protein, so I got some EAS Myoplex ready-to-drink shakes. They are super yummy and I can just tell that they are giving me the protein and nutrients that I need to get stronger.
I headed to Walmart to pick some up. I found them in the Sports Nutrition section. You can even buy them online to get a few more flavors.
I got the Chocolate Fudge and French Vanilla in the EAS Myoplex because it helps build muscle and it is a good, complete nutrition drink.
They are ready to drink and taste great as is. Plus they have good for you nutrients in them!
I wanted to add a little bit to it (I like my drinks to be really cold), so I added one banana and about 3-4 cups of ice and I blended it altogether.
It tasted sooooo good! I had have one every day for the week and I’m loving them! They are perfect for after my workouts to help my muscles recover. Plus when I have one of these a day I know that I am getting the protein that my body needs.
I enjoyed it right after I did my plank challenge. Since my back (and core, those usually go hand in hand) are super weak, I have been doing a plank challenge to try to get up to holding it for 3 minutes. It’s a great way to strengthen those core muscles. I made up a free printable so I can keep track of my progress and mark off the days that I have done and how long I have done it for. You can do the plank challenge with high plank or low plank. And if you finish one month and want to do more, you can add in mountain climbers.
I just do the plank challenge in my living room.
And sometimes I have company…… now if you really want a challenge, do it with a kid on your back :).
I am loving how I feel afterwards though and you can actually see the muscles in my arms, that hasn’t happened for years!! Yay for building muscles!
I am trying to get strong for my family, for my kids. So when we are out and about and I need to hold them or have the strength to do something for them, I can. It’s important to me that they have a strong and healthy mom so I can be the best mom for them that I can be. Like when my little boy decided to fall asleep in my arms as we were walking across the Golden Gate Build. If I hadn’t been working out and been strong, there is no way that I could have been able to carry him for 1+ miles.
If you’ve been wanting to get stronger and build muscles, you should definitely try out the EAS Myoplex drinks and try doing the plank challenge.
What are some of your favorite ways to get stronger? Do you love lifting weights? Or doing push-ups? I would love to know!!
I really do love lifting weights and I'm a big fan of dancing. I grew up a competitive dancer, so it's just FUN to me and I love the way it makes me feel. You look FAB and congrats on building muscle! You're going to have a better time in your 30s and beyond than you did when you were younger! #client
