Whatever Wednesday: Basement Makeover

September 8, 2010 by Kaysi 17 Comments

For the past few months we have been redecorating and rearranging our family room. I finally think that I have it the way that I like it!! So here is how we have changed it.
Before we moved in
One month ago
Now

Before, no paint on the wall
One month ago. We had the couch facing the tv (where the big clock is now)
One month ago
Now. We have the tv on the mantle and the couches facing the fireplace, making it the focal point of the room
It is so nice to have the tv up high so little fingers don’t get on it. It’s great that my baby cannot touch any buttons now!
The computer is in now behind the couch.

There was just empty space in between the fireplace and the wall, so we built shelves

It’s nothing fancy but I sure love the changes!!! It just makes more sense now!

like it much better now, i think facing the fireplace is a great choice.

my post today is about our basement, and whether or not we should get a fireplace, and then where the tv should go. unfortunately we have a small window that would inhibit the tv from going above the fireplace. sure hope you come over and weigh in!

I love that shade of red! Bold and confident… we have a red basement too but our is more sports and athletic inspired…we live and play in the midwest where my husband played college football and our oldest of 6 is a red shirt freshman so 'RED' got our vote. And I write on my walls too! Your blog is adorable.

The color on the walls looks great, and I like how you did the red accent wall. It pulls together nicely with the stone fireplace.

It looks much more comfortable and homey with the color and pictures and other changes.

You are right the fireplace is kinda weird with that space-good idea with the shelves.

Lovely job, I really like your paint color choice. I recently did a basement makeover of my own but started with a space much yuckier than yours. I finished up with a teenage penthouse.
