It’s never a good feeling to wake up with the wind blowing so hard that you feel like your house is going to blow over. I was woken up by my 6 year old because he couldn’t sleep because it was so loud. I couldn’t go back to sleep, the wind was just awful. I’ve lived in Wyoming and Kansas so I am used to wind, but I have never been in a storm that did this much damage!
As I laid in bed, I heard a huge crack. I looked out my bedroom window and saw that our huge tree had lost a branch. I was devastated, I loved that tree. So I got up and went on with our normal morning. I was debating to send my son to school. As I was taking pictures of the tree, I turned and in the corner of my eye I saw another branch fall down. My two sons watched the whole thing! I was shocked but at the same time really nervous because my son’s school is behind us and I was worried that another branch would fall into the parking lot. Luckily it didn’t. I didn’t send my son to school and we just hung out at the house, listening to the wind. We were lucky, I heard in Centerville there will be without power for 48 hours! I’m so grateful that my family is safe!
Here are some pictures of the damage of the wind storm
Two branches broken off of our huge trade. I guess we won’t have anymore shade in the summer 🙁
The wind blew in our garage door.
It’s about a foot in….
Our gate and garbage blew down.
Our side fence (our neighbor’s backyard fence) is completely gone
We walked down a few houses, just to see. There are shingles everywhere.
Trees are down all over
This tree just shocked me, the thing is massive and it fell down, roots and all!
It’s still pretty crazy. You know when you look at something and it hasn’t hit you yet. It’s going to be a long weekend. For all of you in Utah, I hope that you are safe and didn’t get too much damage!!

WOW! That is crazy! I live in southeast Texas and I know how crazy it is to walk out of your house and see that kind of devastation (Hurricane Rita & Ike). I am glad that your family is safe, but be thankful it wasn't a hurricane which is that amout of wind plus tons of water!

How hon…so sorry to see that. It didn't hit us that bad in our side of the valley. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Wow I thought it was windy in Provo! But it was not nearly as bad as that- sorry about your tree. Today my daughter learned to say "wind" :)It's one of those things you can't learn until you feel it and we definitely felt it this morning!

Oh my gosh! We had a windstorm back in the Spring like this, it was horrible. We lost 15 trees..not large ones like this one. Thank God everyone is OK!

Kaysi, I saw Utah on the National News. They said that there were wind gusts up to 101 mph in the Kaysville-Centerville area. Then the wind came to us in Albuquerque but we only had 88 mph gusts and sustained winds at times over 70 mph. It was enough to take out trees, signs and wreck general havoc. Lots of people were without power; mine kept going in and out and I agree with you IT WAS SCARY. The wind here comes from the East and our backyard was a mess. I huddled in the safest room I could find and we even slept there last night. I'm worried about NSLC because my mom was in St George and her house is in North SL. The wind is gone today and it is eerily quiet compared to yesterday. I can't see leaves on trees anywhere. Most of the leaves in our neighborhood hadn't fallen, yet. Sorry about the tree. You are safe and that is a blessing. Our large birch survived. And we stayed safe. Driving home from work my DH said it was the worst wind he had been in since he was caught out in a typhoon in Hong Kong in the 70's.
I love reading your blog and I hope you don't get the "constant winter" my inlaws complained about last year. I guess they had snow in Logan from September through June. We planned on retiring in Logan but in spite of yesterday's wind…I think we'll stay here. 🙂 Okay, that was long and rambling…Have a great day.
