Christmas Neighbor Gift Idea- Christmas Monogram Mug
Christmas neighbor gifts are so fun to make. I seriously love making them for my friends, neighbors and co-workers. Since this year has been so crazy, I wanted to make a super simple and easy gift that didn’t take much time or money. So I came up with this idea- personalized Christmas monogram mugs with hot chocolate. They only cost about $2 to make and they were super easy to do, all I had to do was cut the vinyl and stick it onto the mug. I love making gifts that you can’t just go to the store and buy, it is my way of saying that I care for them.
This is how I made the Christmas monogram mugs.
I started with my Silhouette CAMEO and cut out the designs out of permanent adhesive vinyl. It’s very important that you use the permanent vinyl because the removable vinyl will wash away. Luckily, the patterned vinyl and glitter vinyl from Expressions Vinyl are permanent, so I was able to use those.
These are the materials that I used:
Blank mugs (I got these from the Dollar Tree)
Treat bags (I got some from the Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby)
Hot chocolate or coffee (I got the hot chocolate from Costco)
Once I cut out all of the designs, I weeded the vinyl. I did a variety of designs and used several different patterns and colors. For some of them I put the name last and for some I just did the monogram. It’s fun to do a variety so that they are even more unique.
Now it’s time to put the vinyl onto the mug. I used a clear transfer tape to put the vinyl onto the mug.
Since the mug is a curved surface, you will want to do the hinge method to put it onto the mug. What you do is put the transfer tape onto the vinyl and then instead of taking the whole thing off at once, you fold back the backing paper, right in the middle of the design. Then you put on half of the design, smooth it down with your finger and then slowly take off the backing paper while smoothing the rest of the design down. Once the whole design is on the mug, you press firmly with your fingers to assure that the vinyl is on there smoothly. Then you can take off the transfer tape.
Here are a few different mugs with vinyl on them.
I then added some hot chocolate packets and then wrapped it with the treat bag.
Now time for the tags. I usually make a fancy printable but this year I just used Christmas scrapbook paper. I printed the little saying on vellum .
I cut the paper to be a little bit bigger than the vellum, then I used mini brads and put the two pieces of paper together.
I then attached the tag onto the treat bag with baker’s twine.
And that’s it! Super easy and super cute! I found these super cute hot chocolate tins so I added those to the gift too.
Since hot chocolate bombs are all the rage right now, you can definitely add those to the mug too! You can either make the bombs or buy them, I’ve seen them all over in stores.
Whatever you decide to put into this Christmas monogram mugs, I’m sure that they will a hit with your friends and neighbors!
