Every year I make neighbor gifts for all of my friends, family and co-workers. I love coming up with fun ideas and creating easy neighbor gifts each year. Every year the number of neighbor gifts I make goes up and up. The longer we live here, the bigger the number gets. Every year this time of year I joke around that it’s time to move because we know too many people :). This year the number is around 100, so I decided to go with a simple and easy idea that is also meaningful. This year for neighbor gifts, I made personalized wooden Christmas ornaments and they turned out so good! Thanks to my amazing xTool S1, these wooden Christmas ornaments were a breeze to make!
Here is a quick video to show how to make the personalized wooden Christmas ornaments.
One of my favorite parts about this projects is that these wooden ornaments are perfect size for scrap wood. I had a BUNCH of scrap wood left over from this project and I was able to make the majority of the Christmas ornaments with that left over wood.
This is how I made the personalized wooden Christmas ornaments.
I designed several different Christmas ornaments so they neighbor gifts will be different but I left a little space on the bottom of each design so I could add the last names of everyone. Engraving the names is the easiest way to personalize all of the Christmas ornaments, all you have to do is type in the names in the text box and then click engrave. I’m all for making things easy :).
Once I had the design all figured out, I marked the area to cut and then positioned the design. (Watch the video to see how to do that). When you are using scrap wood like I did, I just marked the area that was usable and didn’t include the areas that were already cut. Since the design has engraving and cutting, I used the 3mm basswood plywood settings. If you there isn’t a preset settings, you can check the settings chart to see what power/speed to use.
Once everything was ready to go, I sent the design to the machine and let the xTool work. I turned on the air assist and sat back and watched it work. I was so impressed with how quickly it cut and how intricate the details were and how well it did.
Look how well it did!! Amazing!
It never hurts to have glitter on a Christmas ornament! Christmas and glitter go together so well. I used a glitter heat transfer vinyl, which is great because the glitter doesn’t go all over the place #IYKYK.
I’m still in awe on how well the xTool S1 cut the wood. Look at those TINY cuts it made. So incredible.
I ironed the glitter HTV onto the wood. If you didn’t know that you can add heat transfer vinyl to wood, it’s true and it’s a really fun trick and it works really well! I made a Christmas countdown sign 5 years ago and the HTV still looks great! To put the HTV onto the wood, I put medium pressure onto the wood and held it for about 10 seconds. Then I peeled back the plastic. I then put the plastic back on (just to protect the vinyl and wood) and ironed it all over just to make sure that the whole piece of HTV was ironed down.
Once the HTV was on, I glued the front of the wooden Christmas ornament with E6000 glue and then added some twine to finish it off.
And that’s it! Isn’t it so fun? I love how it turned out!
Here are some of the other ones that I made for our neighbors and friends. I used a variety of colors for the glitter HTV. I love how they all look and how they are all a little different.
***Update***
Since these personalized Christmas ornaments are so easy to make, thanks to my xTool S1, I was able to make over 100 of them in a couple days. They all turned out amazing! The best part is that I was able to use up a lot of my scrap wood, so they didn’t even cost much money at all, it was a win-win!
I love how they all turned out and because they are personalized, they are all unique!!
