A couple weeks ago I made some reversible BOO/JOY signs for my mantle and I love how they turned out so much that I decided that I wanted to make some more signs that are reversible. I love the idea of having a reversible farmhouse sign that is two signs that I can keep out for several months but doesn’t take up as much room as two signs does. Since I love decorating for fall and Christmas I decided to make one side for fall (or Thanksgiving) and then other side is for Christmas (but you could a winter one too). I love all the possibilities of having these by two sided!
This is how I made them. I made a quick video to show you the process of making them and then I’ll explain how I made them too.
I used a 1×8 for the signs and then a 1×3 for the frames. I usually use a 1×2 for frames but I wanted to have both side have a nice frame so I used the 1×3 instead. I cut the board to be roughly 7.5×7.5 inches and then the frames were roughly 7.5 inches and then 9 inches (two of each). I say roughly because I don’t measure them, I measure the frames onto the board because they aren’t always exactly the same size.
I then stained the frames an espresso color.
I then painted the boards white (on both sides). Instead of painting the words and designs like I usually do, I did vinyl instead and cut it out with my CAMEO. I made up 6 different designs, for the three signs. You can get the Silhouette cut fil and SVG here:
I then put the vinyl onto the board using transfer paper.
Now for the frame. Since the frame goes on both sides, I had to measure the middle of the frame and the middle of the board. Then I nailed it in with a brad nailer I used 1 1/4″ nails. As you can see, this is how I lined it up in the middle. I put then put on the other three sides, making sure the frame was in the middle.
And that’s it!! Here is what the Christmas side looks like.
And here is the fall/Thanksgiving side.
Here are all of the Christmas designs. You can do them in whatever colors of vinyl you would like.
And here are the fall designs. I did a generic one too (choose happy) to show that it doesn’t have to be a holiday, you can have a regular saying on one side too!
Here are some more sign ideas that you might enjoy 🙂
