Reversible Fall and Halloween Sign- Buffalo Plaid Block Sign
It’s September and it’s time for decorate for fall. Normally I don’t decorate for fall until November and I usually decorate for Halloween first and that’s is usually the last week of September. Well this year since I have been making so many fun fall decorations, the itch to decorate for fall has hit me hard so I have decided to decorate for fall. I still want to decorate for Halloween in October, so I am trying to use things that I can have out for fall decor but can use for Halloween too. Because who wants to take everything out and then put it all back in October and then bring it back out in November. Not me! I am loving the buffalo plaid trend, so I am trying to incorporate it into my fall and Halloween decor. So I made a super cute buffalo plaid block sign that is reversible, so when October comes all I have to do is just flip it around and I’m good to go!
Here is a quick video to show you the process of how to make it 🙂
This is how I made it:
I started with a 1 x 6 board and I cut two pieces into a square, which was 5.5 inches by 5.5 inches. Then I cut 4 pieces of a 1 x 2 board, two of those pieces were 5.5 inches and two of them were 2.5 inches. I then used black vinyl for the design and a buffalo plaid vinyl for the side of the block.
I cut out the designs with my Silhouette CAMEO and then weeded the vinyl. I then used transfer tape to put the vinyl onto the wood. You can get the Halloween design here. And the hello fall Silhouette design here and the SVG cut file here.
Here is the vinyl on both boards.
Now to build the block. I took the 4 pieces of the 1 x 2 board and then put them onto the back of one of the boards. Then using a nail gun, I nailed the wood onto the board. You will want to use 1-1 1/4 inch nails. You could also use wood glue for this part if you didn’t have a nail gun.
Once the 1 x 2 pieces were nailed on, I then glued the other board onto the 1 x 2 pieces.
Once it was on and it was lined up, I put something heavy on it to help it set and dry.
Once the wood was dry, I cut out the buffalo plaid vinyl to fit around the block. It was about 2 1/4 inches. It was slightly smaller, so you will want to cut it smaller because if you cut it 2 1/4″ then you will get a little lip of vinyl around the sign, like I did.
I put the vinyl all around the block sign and pressed it down firmly.
And that’s it! I put it out with my other porch decorations!
And next month when I am getting the Halloween stuff out, all I have to do is flip around.
And why yes I did put some black vinyl on a pumpkin, that why I can just flip it around too :).
You could also do this sign for fall and Christmas. I did it the exact same way just used a Christmas design and one that would work for Thanksgiving. You can get the Christmas design here.
