Buffalo Plaid Fall Decor Ideas {Gather Sign}

Buffalo Plaid Fall Decor Ideas {Gather Sign}

Not very often do I wish for another season to come, I like all of the seasons.  But fall is my favorite season and September is my favorite month, so I am excited for it to come!!  It’s hard to think about fall when it’s still 100 degrees out and we are stilling living by the side of the pool, but after making these super cute buffalo plaid fall signs, I am so ready to exchange swimsuits and lemonade to jackets and hot chocolate!  These signs were so much fun to make and they would be a perfect addition to a fall centerpiece or mantel!  To see how to make the pumpkin sign, go here.

Expressions Vinyl has bee coming out with new patterned vinyl and they just came out with some buffalo plaid vinyl and it is ah-maz-ing!!  I seriously love it!  There are 4 different colors and it comes in heat transfer vinyl and in adhesive vinyl.  For these signs I used the adhesive vinyl in black and white.

This is how I made the gather sign.  Here is a quick video to show you the process :).

First I cut a 1×4 board 8 1/2″ wide.  Then I cut some 1×2 boards to make it look more like a block than a sign.  The 1×2 pieces were 8 1/2″ (2 of them) and just a little under 2″ (2 of them).

Once the wood was cut, I then cut out the word gather out of stencil vinyl.  I removed the word (instead of the excess) to make a stencil.  You can get the cut file for the gather here:

Then using some transfer tape, I put the vinyl onto the block of wood.

Then using black paint and a stencil foam brush, I painted the word onto the wood.

Once the paint was dry, I took off the vinyl and removed all of the little pieces that was inside of the letters.

Using a nail gun, I nailed the 1×2 pieces together.

Then using some wood glue, I glued the board onto the 1×2 pieces.  I put something heavy onto it and let it sit and dry.

Once it was dry, I cut the buffalo plaid vinyl with a paper trimmer.  The sides of the sign were right around 2 1/4″ inches, so I cut the vinyl to be that size.  I used two 12″ strips to go around the whole sign.

I put the vinyl onto the sides and pressed it all down so it was smooth and secure.  I then sanded the board a little bit to give it a more rustic look.

And that’s it for the gather sign!  I put into a fun wooden tray and some adorable fall decor that I found at Hobby Lobby.

I love how the buffalo plaid looks on the side of the sign!

I made a pillow to go with it the sign 🙂
